Greenhouse Ghosts is a series of life-sized animal silhouettes scattered throughout the greenhouse habitats – perched on branches, hiding in foliage, or foraging on the ground. Specifically, these are threatened, endangered, or extinct animal species from around the world, realistically carved in low relief and painted a flat off-white, creating a stark contrast to the vibrant and riotous green of their surroundings; they become present as a notable absence.
