Try as they might, siblings don’t always get along. When they’re young, they might fight over a toy. As they get older, they might be jealous of a sibling they think a parent is favoring. That’s exactly what happened with Joseph and his 11 brothers, the other sons of Jacob. Only they weren’t arguing over a toy, but rather a coat of many colors. So begins Newton Country Players’ upcoming production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
Four Wellesley residents are performing in the show. Cathy Merlo of Wellesley is one of the Narrators. Merlo, Lisa Huntington of Hopkinton and Kadie Greenfield of Dover will tell this Biblical-based story in three-part harmony.
The other three Wellesley residents in the production, Thomas Hillmer, Ava Keresztes, and Kaitlin Kolb, are all in the children’s chorus. All of them will be singing and dancing to Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s songs “Any Dream Will Do,” “Close Every Door,” and “Go, Go, Go, Joseph.”
As for the rest of the cast, Doug Hodge of Hudson will put on the multi-colored coat and step into Joseph’s shoes. Paul Chamberlin of Marlborough, who is joined in the cast by his real-life children Julia and Lauren, plays both Jacob and Potiphar; Dance Captain Laurie Fisher of Jamaica Plain plays Potiphar’s Wife; and Dale Winkler of Milford plays Pharoah and one of Joseph’s brothers. Other brothers are played by Forest Franzose, a student at Northeastern University in Boston; Joseph Duda of Holliston; Jim Kopycinski of Framingham; Chris Lahey of Woburn; Brian Lavelle and Michael Trabucco, both of Arlington; Brent Leibowitz of Hopkinton; Jeremy White of Needham; David Wright of Watertown, and Larry Solomon of Reading, who is joined on the stage by his daughter Ilana. Matt Gelman of Brighton rounds out the men’s ensemble.
In addition to the children mentioned above, the children’s chorus includes Elena Carmichael of Natick; Lauren Fitzpatrick and Gabriel Stern, both of Newton; siblings Francine and Ronan Tennis of Needham; and David Gordon of Northboro. His mother, Sally Gould, who is playing one of the wives in the production, joins David in the cast. The other members of the women’s ensemble are Lucy Aiken of Newton; Michele Davis of Milford; Rebecca Davis of Brookline; Kelly Aldrich of Hopedale; Sharon Kivnik and Julie Wiseman, both of Framingham; Colleen Locke of Ashland; Nicole O’Keeffe of Cambridge; and Susan Rubin of Arlington.
The creative team includes director and choreographer Michelle Leibowitz of Hopkinton and musical director Karen Winkler of Milford.
