Fall 2009 Publisher’s Letter

We celebrated Halloween in June this year in my neighborhood. The children dressed up in their adorable costumes; decorated their porches with pumpkins, ghosts, and goblins; and excitement filled the air as dusk approached. Instead of “trick or treat,” however, we heard the sound of a camera’s shutter and saw flash after flash as our creative director began shooting this year’s cover photo. As with all of our covers, we need to plan and shoot months and sometimes even a year before the issue is published. With this photo shoot, everyone got into the spirit, even though it was summer and the giant bags filled with candy were absent. I’d like to thank the Bishop, Russell, Baldwin, and Capillo families who were kind enough to lend us their children, their homes, and their decorations. I’d also like to thank Liz Curtin for providing Mr. Ghoul to light up the doorway (and scare the kids) and Home Trends for also providing decorations.

Our covers are a source of pride at WellesleyWeston Magazine, and we are always looking for interesting places and people to be featured. When looking at the photos for our Charles River article in this issue, all I could say was, “Wow.” Most of the photos were taken at the Mass Audubon’s Broadmoor Sanctuary, and the colors of the leaves and the shimmering beauty of the river were reminders of just how special this part of the country is, especially in the fall. I’d like to thank the Mass Audubon Society and the photographer, David Parish, for granting us permission to use these photos that really set the stage for this issue.

I did a little staging of my own one rainy day a couple of weeks ago after becoming inspired by our “10 Tips for a Home Face-Lift” article. I rearranged some furniture, relocated a couple of rugs, and moved a favorite painting to a more prominent location. It really is remarkable how these basic changes have transformed my living room. Now I’m motivated to tackle more rooms, but I think I’ll wait until the weather turns chilly before resuming the project.

An exciting change is taking place at the magazine as we introduce our blog, wwmblog.com. The blog will feature expanded About Town coverage with more photos of our readers and local businesspeople attending noteworthy events throughout Wellesley, Weston, and Greater Boston. It will also provide an opportunity for us to engage in interactive dialogue with our readers as well as provide current commentary on a variety of subjects. Our editor will write in our blog on a regular basis, and we encourage your blog entries and comments. We will also feature an events calendar and an automated log-in process that will enable you to receive electronic updates as soon as we post them.

As you can tell, I’m very excited about our blog, and I encourage you to check in with us often.
