The Wellesley Service League (WSL) announced that five graduating high school seniors were awarded the Centennial Youth Service (CYS) Award for distinguished community service. WSL has named three recipients and two co-recipients for 2021. The three recipients, all from Wellesley High School’s 2021 graduating class, are Grace Rodrigue, Seth Tobin, and Ben Workman. The co-recipients are Alex Abdelal and Jake Merritt, of the 2021 graduating classes of Nobles and Greenough School in Dedham, and Wellesley High School, respectively.

Wellesley-based Freshman Fresh Start is one of 140 local nonprofits to be awarded a $100,000 grant from The Cummings Foundation. Freshman Fresh Start provides dorm room essentials and school supplies to low-income, high-achieving college-bound freshmen, helping to lessen family financial burdens and ease the transition to campus life. The Community Fund for Wellesley’s (CFFW) COVID-19 Relief Fund was created in partnership with the Wellesley Select Board to identify and address community needs during the coronavirus crisis. With the support and generosity of its neighbors, CFFW was able to grant over $125,000 in emergency relief funding in critical areas. The COVID Relief Fund was made possible by neighbors caring for their neighbors, and CFFW is incredibly grateful for the community’s support throughout the pandemic.

Wellesley Hills Junior Women’s Club (WHJWC) announced that the Wonder Run & Kitchen and Home Tour will take place this coming year and will be larger than in years past. Family Promise Metrowest, a Natick-based nonprofit that offers a community response to family homelessness, announced that it has received a $3,000 grant from the Wellesley Hills Junior Women’s Club (WHJWC) for housing subsidies for families who are in the SAIL (Sustaining Achievements for Independent Living) program. SAIL supports families transitioning out of shelter into permanent housing by providing resources that assist them in establishing long-term stability and independence.
