Brimmer and May, an independent, co-educational school serving Pre-K to 12th grade students in Chestnut Hill, has opened the Hastings Center, a two-story addition to one of their existing buildings. The Center is named after the Hastings family, members of whom are Wellesley residents and supporters of the Brimmer community. The new addition will house state-of the art innovation, STEAM, media, and Maker Labs where students will innovate and experiment with creative ideas in order to develop their problem-solving skills.

While seniors were home for Thanksgiving break, Needham Bank recognized the Wellesley High School girls’ golf team’s achievement of winning the state championship last June by presenting jackets to the team. MassBay Community College is pleased to announce that Governor Charlie Baker has reappointed longtime Wellesley resident Thomas E. Peisch as Chair of the College’s Board of Trustees. Longtime community leaders and Wellesley Council on Aging activists John and Dwin Schuler and Mary Bowers are being recognized as outstanding individuals for their significant contributions to the Town and to the Council on Aging over many years.  Two prominent rooms at the new Tolles-Parsons Center will be named in their honor:  The John and Dwin Schuler Multi-Purpose Room and the Mary Bowers Café.  The Wellesley Board of Selectmen unanimously approved this request by the New Era Fund, a program of the Friends of Wellesley Council on Aging.

The second annual Garden Party at the Gardens at Elm Bank was held on Thursday, June 15.  Attendees had a unique look at the renowned neoclassical Manor House of the 36-acre estate and enjoyed the grandeur of the Olmsted designed Italianate Garden. One of the many majestic rooms of the Manor House was decorated by lead designer Stephanie Chlan of Stephanie Chlan Interiors of Wellesley.  Guests also learned about the vision for the years leading up to Mass Hort’s 200th Anniversary in 2029.

Bates Elementary School’s cafeteria recycling and food waste diversion project and Wellesley’s Food Service Director Matt Delaney won three separate awards in State House ceremonies, sparking statewide and regional attention. The Wellesley Historical Society received a generous grant from the Wellesley Community Preservation Committee in 2016 to process a large part of its individual and family archives. The project, which began in July 2016, involves organizing and describing the archives, placing them in acid-free folders, and creating finding aids which are made available online.
