Peter Kelley of Wellesley received the Order of the Rising Sun, Japan’s highest honor, at a conferment ceremony in Washington, DC on September 20, 2024. Shigeo Yamada, Ambassador of Japan to the U.S., presented Kelley with this imperial decoration for his distinguished service to the U.S.-Japan relationship during his career in business, academia and most recently as the president of the National Association of Japan-America Societies from 2009 to 2023.
