One of Weston’s most historic homes is on the market.
The Henderson House, located at 99 Westcliff Road in Weston, had its origins in the late 1800’s. The first structure on the property burnt down in 1890, and a new home was built in 1926 as a summer residence for Edward Pierce, who owned it until the 1940’s, when Roger Babson purchased it and winterized it. Edith Babson Mustard, Roger’s daughter, inherited the property and sold off 300 hundred of the original 370 acres before selling the remaining land and building to Ernest Henderson, co-founder of the Sheraton Hotels chain and a member of the Board of Directors of Northeastern University. By the 1970’s, it had been sold to the University and became a center for continuing education, conferences, corporate retreats, and eventually weddings and other signature events.
The Henderson House estate at one time contained 6 or 7 buildings, including a carriage house, greenhouse, and a bowling alley. Because of its historical nature, it played host to many dignitaries over the years, including Mikhail Gorbachev, Senators Kerry and Kennedy, Governor Romney, and a multitude of other big political names. It was also a shooting spot for the 1980’s TV series “Spencer for Hire,” several local TV broadcasts, and also served as the “B Station” or cast and crew location for the feature film “Company Men,” starring Tommy Lee Jones and Ben Affleck. It was also home to many fundraisers and other social occasions.
The Henderson House has nearly 17,000 square feet of living space, and is listed at $7,795,000. This signature estate is magnificently sited on the top of a scenic hill and offers magnificent views and stunning architectural details. It’s an English-Tudor styled mansion, nestled on 5 acres of beautiful grounds and it includes over 25 rooms of expansive living space. It has a unique and classic beauty that captures the style and sophistication of the era in which it was built. It’s listed on the National Register of Historic Homes, and would be a great home for en executive, celebrity who wants space, or another college or university looking for a central location that could serve many purposes.
