Senior Art Show in Collaboration with Wellesley COA, Wellesley Free Library and Waterstone at Wellesley (June 2-29)
The public is invited to the third annual Senior Art Show at the Wellesley Free Library from June 2 to June 29. The show was created in collaboration between the Wellesley Council on Aging, Waterstone at Wellesley and the Wellesley Free Library and showcases the work of more than 30 senior artists across multiple mediums. The works will be exhibited in the Wakelin Room and the main lobby of the library. There will be an opening reception on Wednesday, June 10 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and a community art reception on Sunday, June 14 from 2 to 4 p.m. Please contact the Wellesley Free Library at 781-235-1610 for more details.

Animal World Experience to visit Waterstone at Wellesley (June 1)
Animal expert and the founder of Animal World Experience Matt Gabriel is visiting Waterstone at Wellesley along with several unusual critters on Monday, June 1 at 2:30 p.m. Animal World Experience educates audiences on a variety of different animals, providing, fun and interactive presentations to audiences around the state. Programs focus on local and exotic wildlife, the importance of protecting endangered species and responsible pet ownership. Lecture on world finance by Mary Beth Mahoney at Waterstone (June 4)

Waterstone at Wellesley is excited to welcome classical pianist Olga Vinakur on Thursday, June 11 at 7:30 p.m. Vinakur has been featured in the New York Times and has a career that spans continents. A soloist and chamber musician, Vinakur has played at Weill Recital Hall of Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Merkin Hall and New York’s Town Hall. Historian to lecture on the Lincoln-Douglas Debates of 1858 (June 14)
Stonehill College professor Gary Hylander is visiting Waterstone at Wellesley on Sunday, June 14 at 2:30 p.m. Hylander will discuss the Lincoln-Douglas Debates of 1858, political debates between challenger Abraham Lincoln and incumbent Stephen A. Douglas for one of Illinois’ two Senate seats. Though Lincoln did not win the election, the debates were a turning point for his political career. Hylander, a popular historian, routinely visits Waterstone to lead fascinating lectures on significant moments in national and world history. First part of Summer Outdoor Series featuring the Jazzlanders at Waterstone (June 18)

Artist, educator and Art Matters owner Jane Blair will visit Waterstone at Wellesley on Monday, June 22 at 3 p.m. Blair will present “Norman Rockwell,” a discussion on one of America’s most beloved artists. A painter, Rockwell illustrated more than 300 covers for the Saturday Evening Post. Blair has been an art educator for approximately 20 years and has hosted her Art Matters lectures for nearly 14 years. Pianist Ethan Stone to perform at Waterstone (June 23)
Waterstone at Wellesley will welcome musician Ethan Stone for a performance on Tuesday, June 23 at 7:30 p.m. A talented jazz pianist, Stone entertains audiences with hits from the 1920s through the 1950s, including songs by Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong, George Gershwin and more. Stone studied jazz composition at Berklee College of Music and has performed throughout the United States, Europe and Latin America. Anthony Sammarco to discuss origins of the Howard Johnson legacy at Waterstone (June 25)
Author Anthony Sammarco will visit Waterstone at Wellesley on Thursday, June 25 at 7:30 p.m. to discuss the origins of the Howard Johnson legacy. Howard Deering Johnson, born in Boston, was the founder of the Howard Johnson’s chain of restaurants and motels. Once the country’s largest restaurant chain, Johnson’s contributions to the restaurant industry include creating the concept of franchising. Film critic to discuss “Casablanca” at Waterstone (June 28)
Film critic Dan Kimmel is returning to Waterstone at Wellesley on Sunday, June 28 at 2:30 p.m. to discuss “Casablanca.” The beloved 1942 film stars Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart, iconic in his role as a world-weary nightclub owner. The drama, set in Africa in World War II, follows Bogart as Rick Blaine as he comes into contact with his past love Ilsa, played by Bergman. Pianist Geoff Hicks to perform at Waterstone (June 29)
The accomplished pianist Dr. Geoffrey Hicks will visit Waterstone at Wellesley on Friday, June 29 at 7:30 p.m. Hicks, a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music, has performed in front of Nelson Mandela and Sen.
