Want to Start a Rock Band, Create Electronic Music, or Learn an Instrument? Registration for Plugged In Band Program’s Spring Session of Youth Rock Band Class, online Music Technology courses, and Private Music Lessons is now open. All sessions begin February 27, 2023.
Since 2002, Plugged In has educated and celebrated performers at all stages of their music-making journeys. A non-competitive approach to learning, a sense of community, and positive change-making through music are staple components of Plugged In courses, which prioritize inclusivity above all else.
In Youth Rock Band Class, students ages 8-19 are placed into bands to develop a setlist of original and/or cover songs. With the support of trained music teachers, the groups practice for 1.5 hours weekly in preparation for the session-ending concert, which benefits a charity selected by the students.
Plugged In also offers several Music Technology classes, which are held virtually. These courses provide middle and high school-aged students a “behind the scenes” glimpse of
what it takes to use sound design and engineering to create the perfect song, write their favorite tracks, or livestream a performance, for example.
These offerings include Digital Audio Production, an innovative glimpse into creating, editing, and mixing electronic music; Songwriting and Production, a project-based course in which each student writes and records an original track; Creating Music with Coding, where introductory computer programming lessons prepare students to compose their own music; and The World’s Biggest Stage: Livestreaming 101, which teaches the art of promoting and broadcasting content while engaging an audience online.
In Private Music Lessons, students are paired with professional music teachers to learn, or improve their skills on, the instrument of their choice. With one-on-one instruction, each student receives undivided attention and personalized feedback. Lessons are offered seven days a week and can be customized to fit each student’s schedule and budget.
At Plugged In, students thrive in a learning environment without hierarchies or band leaders, where those of all abilities and skill levels are met where they are. Through collaboration with bandmates and professional teaching staff, those who enroll harness the power of music to increase self-confidence, sharpen interpersonal skills, and practice socioemotional learning. Students leave Plugged In with a clear sense of how their art is of value to their communities.
Enrollment in Band Class or Music Technology courses is now open. Private Music Lesson enrollment is ongoing. Registration for all programming can be completed online at www.pluggedinband.org.
