WELLESLEY VOLUNTEERS ANNOUNCES FIRST ANNUAL WELLESLEY DAY OF SERVICE
– Town-Wide Day of Volunteerism Scheduled for Sunday, May 4, 2014 –

Wellesley Volunteers today announced the first annual Wellesley Day of Service to be held on Sunday, May 4, 2014.  Wellesley Day of Service is a day of volunteer activities that will bring together volunteers of all ages to complete a variety of community projects for the benefit of non-profit organizations and municipal departments throughout the town of Wellesley. Volunteers will work in teams on morning or afternoon projects throughout the town with a luncheon celebration at midday.  All Wellesley residents can participate in the day’s volunteer events, depending on the logistics of the specific project.  Any individuals, families, groups and Wellesley-based corporations can volunteer.

“Over the past year and a half, Wellesley Volunteers has been overwhelmed by the number of individuals in the town who are interested in giving of their time to the community.  The success of the Volunteer Fairs and the positive response to online volunteer opportunities at VolunteerMatch.org has led us to decide to create a town-wide day of volunteerism.  We expect the day to include a variety of different projects at locations throughout the town that would appeal to a broad base of the town’s citizens,” said Megan Burns, Marketing Coordinator of Wellesley Volunteers.  “Final projects, locations and times will be announced in the coming weeks.”

The Day of Service Committee is currently reviewing a list of potential projects for May 4, 2014.  Members of the Committee include representatives from the Fund for Wellesley, Wellesley Friendly Aid, the Wellesley Fire Department, the Wellesley Police Department, the Wellesley Free Library, the Wellesley Youth Commission, the Wellesley Board of Selectmen, the Wellesley Council on Aging, the Wellesley Trails Committee, the Wellesley Department of Public Works, Babson College, and the Wellesley Hills Junior Women’s Club.

About Wellesley Volunteers

Wellesley Volunteers is an initiative designed to bring together Wellesley residents interested in volunteering with Wellesley charitable and other nonprofit organizations or municipal departments and agencies that need volunteers. By utilizing an external website, Wellesley Volunteers enables these groups to publicize their requirements for volunteers and provides these individuals with a central source at which to find meaningful volunteer opportunities.  Wellesley Volunteers was created by a grant from the Fund for Wellesley to promote volunteerism in the town of Wellesley.  The grant, prepared by the Wellesley Volunteers Task Force, is being administered by Wellesley Friendly Aid.First Annual Wellesley Day of Service
