When you hear “Wellesley Assemblies” do you immediately think of the popular fifth grade ballroom dance program? Do images come to mind of awkward preteens—boys in blue blazers and ties and girls in white gloves and party dresses—learning to waltz and foxtrot as well as to introduce themselves with a firm handshake and direct eye contact?

If so, imagine preteens in 50 years or more, without the awkward demeanor. Conjure up images of men and women in party attire enjoying cocktails at a member’s home, followed by dinner, ballroom dancing to a live band, and “homegrown” entertainment—all at a local country club.

That’s right, there is an even older tradition than the fifth grade social dance program that has been running in Wellesley for more than 80 years. Learn about the Wellesley Assemblies social and dance club for adults in the Digital Edition of the Spring 2022 Issue of WellesleyWeston Magazine.
