Wellesley Theatre Project (WTP) will present the musicals, Bugsy Malone, Jr. and Guys and Dolls Wednesday, May 11, Thursday, May 12, Friday May 13, and Saturday May 14.  All performances will take place at the Ellsworth Theater, at Pine Manor College located at 400 Heath Street, Chestnut Hill. Tickets are priced $12 for adults and $6 for students and seniors, and may be purchased online here in advance, or at the door for $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors.

Bugsy Malone, Jr., is based on the hit 1976 film starring Scott Baio and Jodi Foster and features a catchy, swinging score by the composer of The Muppet Movie. Bugsy Malone, Jr. is good, clean, comedic fun! Join two gangs comprised completely of children, as they square off in a 1920’s rivalry of Capone-ian standards. Dandy Dan’s gang has gotten the upper hand since obtaining the “splurge” gun (a weapon that shoots marshmallows). Now Fat Sam and his bumbling buffoons are in real trouble! Bugsy Malone, a one-time boxer, is thrust not-so-willingly into the gangster limelight, when he becomes the last chance Fat Sam’s gang has of surviving. All Bugsy really wants to do is spend time with his new love Blousey; but that just isn’t in the cards for our hero. Bugsy Malone, Jr. will be  presented by two separate casts from WTP’s Elementary Production Class. Performances are May 11 at 5:30pm and 7:30pm, May 12 at 5:30pm, May 13 at at 5:30pm, and May 14 at noon and 2:30pm.

Guys and Dolls is a crowd pleasing musical featuring iconic songs “Luck Be a Lady Tonight” and “Bushel and a Peck”, set in fantastical New York City in 1934. Gambler Nathan Detroit tries to find the cash to set up the biggest craps game in town while the authorities breathe down his neck; meanwhile, his girlfriend, nightclub performer Adelaide, laments that they’ve been engaged for 14 years. Nathan turns to fellow gambler Sky Masterson for the dough, but Sky ends up chasing the straight-laced missionary Sarah Brown. Guys And Dolls takes us from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana, Cuba, and even into the sewers of New York City, but eventually everyone ends up right where they belong. Guys and Dolls is presented by WTP’s 6th-12th grade Production Class and performances are May 12 at 7:30pm, May 13 at 7:30pm, and May 14 at 5pm.

WTP Production Classes, featuring three casts of 75 students between the ages of seven to eighteen, began rehearsals in January. Cast members reside in Wellesley as well as neighboring communities including Needham, Newton, Waban, Auburndale, Natick, Weston, Boston, Wayland, and Concord.
