“What began as isolated requests for help to showcase art in our town has morphed into a mission to make the visual arts an integral part of life in Wellesley,” explained Annie Newman, who, along with fellow artist friends Julie Vari-Nikolewski and Laura Robert, launched Art Wellesley as a public charity in the spring of 2021. “The Select Board, the Chief of Police, and various other town groups had repeatedly approached the three of us for help with disparate arts-related programs,” added Annie. We agreed to provide support, but with the commitment to each other that we formalize our agenda and raise our aspirations for the arts in town. That’s how Art Wellesley was born.”
