The Julie Fund will hold its annual Julie Fund Walk on Saturday, June 26 at Artesani Park, Soldiers Field Road in Brighton.  Funds raised will benefit Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Cancer Center’s ovarian cancer research efforts and will provide financial support for individuals with women’s cancers. Registration begins at 8:00 am; participants can walk the 5K route along the Charles River between 9:00 am and noon. This family event will feature refreshments, entertainment, and children’s activities. Information on the identification, prevention and treatment of women’s cancers such as ovarian and breast cancer, will also be available.  All registered walkers will receive a free T-shirt.

The Julie Fund honors the memory of Julie Paige McAvinn, a Wellesley resident and MGH patient who lost her battle with ovarian cancer in 2004 at age 40. Julie’s friends and family established the fund in partnership with the MGH. All proceeds from the walk go to the MGH to fund research and provide non-medical financial support to women in need.

Now in its fifth year, The Julie Fund has raised more than $1 million to help female cancer patients at MGH. Because of its success, patient support was recently extended to women with cancer who are receiving treatment and North Shore Medical Center and Newton-Wellesley Hospital.
