Newton-Wellesley Hospital has announced that online registration is underway (www.nwh.org/hopewalks) for its 10th annual Hope Walks event, to be held on Sunday, October 6, 2019. One of Newton-Wellesley’s most beloved traditions to benefit cancer patients, Hope Walks will take place this year on the campus of Babson College, 271 Wellesley Avenue, Wellesley.

Funds raised from this event benefit the Mass General Cancer Center at Newton-Wellesley. The event supports a number of programs and services for our cancer patients, including advanced treatments, important clinical research and integrative support therapies such as massage, reiki, psychosocial counseling and survivorship classes to help patients regain mental and physical strength after treatment.

In fact, Ray Angelone certainly understands the importance of access to clinical research. After being diagnosed with stage III pancreatic cancer and finding out he was not a candidate for surgery, he learned about a clinical trial that he hoped would successfully treat his cancer. “The physicians laid out the roadmap and I couldn’t wait to begin treatment,” said Angelone. Thanks to the funds raised by Hope Walks, an increasing number of clinical trials are made available to patients at the Mass General Cancer Center at Newton-Wellesley.

At this year’s event, participants can complete one lap around the Babson College campus for a 1.5-mile walk or two laps for a 3-mile walk. Check-in begins at 9:00 am, opening ceremonies start at 9:30 am, and the walk begins at 10:00 am. Adult walkers (ages 10 and up) can register for $40; student walkers (college students) for $20; youth walkers (ages 3-9) for $10; two and under can join for free; dogs (on leash) are also welcome.

Walker registration includes an event t-shirt, a special gift, refreshments and a post-walk celebration with DJ entertainment and family-friendly activities such as lawn games, a bouncy house, face painting, a balloon artist and more.
