Set in a western territory just after the turn of the century, the high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys provides the colorful background against which Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl, play out their love story. Meanwhile, the surly farmhand Jud also vies for Laurey’s affection, proving that their journey to find love may be as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road. With an ensemble of beloved characters including flirty Ado Annie, tough and big-hearted Aunt Eller, and a cunning and comedic traveling salesman, OKLAHOMA! is a classic that you “just can’t say no” to!
A talented cast and crew of 20 Summer Production Camp students between the ages of seven and sixteen brings the ensemble of farm boys, farm girls, cowboys, and ranchers to life. Cast members of OKLAHOMA! reside in Wellesley as well as neighboring communities including Natick, Newton, Waban, Concord, and West Roxbury.
OKLAHOMA! production staff includes: Benjamin Rush, Director and Set Designer; Hannah Shihdanian, Choreographer; Tristan Bouchard, Musical Director; and Megan Pillsbury, Costume Designer. Music and lyrics are by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein. Adaptation by Tom Briggs.
