SOAR 55 is a pathway for volunteers interested in meaningful service assignments

SOAR 55, Service Opportunities After Reaching 55, a program of Newton Community Service Center and part of a national network of volunteer agencies connecting adults age 55 and over with meaningful community service opportunities in Newton and MetroWest. SOAR 55 collaborates with 80 non-profits and civic organizations to offer volunteers a myriad of interesting opportunities from which to choose. Staff works closely with each volunteer to help ensure assignments meet individual interests, skills and schedule. SOAR 55 Volunteers help in direct service roles, as skilled-based volunteers and as management consultants to local nonprofits.

Service opportunities include but are not limited to: train to provide management consulting to nonprofits using your development or marketing skills; tutor elementary school children in reading or math to help them reach grade-level proficiencies, so critical to future life success; develop a fundraising action plan that will help a teen center to provide better support and expand its programs for at-risk students; coordinate volunteers for a program whose mission is to help pre-release inmates and parolees begin their own businesses; and much more.

All assignments offer a chance for volunteers to meet new people, learn new skills, share experience and connect with the community. Many assignments include orientation, training and support, are flexible and require approximately two hours (average) a week. Train to provide management consulting assistance to local nonprofits using your marketing or fundraising/development expertise

SOAR 55 is currently accepting applications from former and current (part-time) executives/professionals with marketing or development expertise who are available to help local nonprofits with management projects through the award winning SOAR 55 Nonprofit Management Consulting Group program, generously funded through the Tufts Health Plan Foundation. The group works in teams of 3 on short-term assignments requiring approximately 15-20 hours a month when on assignment. Qualified candidates will be interviewed and those selected will participate in a comprehensive 40-hour training program over an 8 week period beginning in October. Ongoing support is provided while on assignment.  This is an opportunity to use your skills, connect with others in a purposeful endeavor and to make a difference in your community.
