Weekend Schedule Announced for 2015 Chopin Symposium at The Rivers School Conservatory

On June 26-28, 2015, The Rivers School Conservatory hosts The Chopin Symposium –a weekend of performances, lectures, discussions, and master classes centered on the life and art of Polish composer Fryderyk Chopin. The weekend’s activities also highlights other composers from Chopin’s time, his rich pianistic legacy, and the cultural and artistic life of 19th-century Europe.

Inaugurating this year’s symposium on Friday, June 26th at 7:30 pm is a recital by acclaimed pianist Antonio Pompa-Baldi, celebrated professor at the Cleveland Institute of Music, Steinway Artist, and winner for the 1999 Cleveland International Piano Competition.  His program includes works by Chopin, Grieg, and Debussy.

Continuing the symposium’s commitment to fostering emerging talents, a second concert on Saturday, June 27 at 7:30 pm features young artists of The Chopin Institute in solo, four-hand, and two-piano works. The concert celebrates the music that Chopin enjoyed playing in duo with his friends and students – not only the works of his adored Mozart, but also Schubert and Moscheles, whose music he played in public several times with Liszt and Moscheles himself.

The wide range of performances is punctuated by the participation of speakers David Dubal, Mike Lee, A. Ramon Rivera, Halina Goldberg, and Roberto Poli in a series of insightful lectures and discussions that actively involve the audience. The closing performance of The Chopin Symposium, Sunday, June 29 at 7:00 pm is the reenactment of a performance held at Chopin’s own salon in Paris on February 25, 1832. Works include: Beethoven’s String Quintet in C Major, Op. 29; Rossini duets for soprano and mezzo-soprano; works transcribed for two pianos, eight hands; Chopin’s Concerto in F minor with Chopin’s original accompaniment of string quartet, and more.

Individual concerts are $25, general admission. All-access weekend passes are $100. The Rivers School Conservatory is located at 333 Winter Street in Weston, MA.
