Beth Israel Dec Hosp LogoBeth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Needham (BID–Needham) was one of 55 hospitals in four states on the 2015 honor roll from Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, a not-for-profit health services company. The list, which is in its ninth year, recognizes adult, acute care hospitals whose performance was among the top 25 percent of those measured nationally, using Hospital Compare and Leapfrog patient safety measures.
“Harvard Pilgrim is proud to recognize these Honor Roll hospitals that are providing our members with high quality care,” said Eric H. Schultz, President and CEO, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care. “In this time of great change in health care, we want to commend these hospitals for their focus and dedication to quality and patient safety.”
“We are pleased to be recognized for our outstanding care and patient safety,” said John M. Fogarty, President and CEO of BID–Needham. “BID–Needham continues to be ranked in the top tier by leading area health insurance organizations for high-quality care at the best value. This honor roll is further validation of the great service we provide to the community.”
Hospitals were evaluated on processes of care in four categories: cardiac; pneumonia; surgery – preventing infections; and surgery – preventing complications. The results of patient surveys measuring their hospital experiences were also considered. Harvard Pilgrim factored in CMS patient safety measures such as healthcare associated infections, and Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) patient safety composite scores.
