HISTORIC GOLDEN BALL TAVERN MUSEUM HOSTS 48TH ANNUAL ANTIQUES SHOW AND SALE – SEPTEMBER 26TH
The 48TH Annual Golden Ball Tavern Antiques Show and Sale, one of the oldest and largest continually-operating shows of its kind in New England, will be held rain or shine on Saturday, September 26, 2015 on the grounds of the historic Golden Ball Tavern Museum in Weston, Massachusetts – a unique Tory tavern that played a pivotal role as a base for British spies in the lead up to the Revolutionary War.
The Antiques Show and Sale has been held every year since 1967. Up to 95 premier dealers from New England, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania participate. Dealer inventories include authentic fine furniture, jewelry, silver, fine art, linens, china, crystal and many unusual one-of-a-kind items dating back as far as the 17th century. In addition, a perennial favorite is The Barn Sale, featuring well- priced vintage furniture and decorative items donated by area residents. The Barn Sale offers an opportunity to purchase sustainable, environmentally-responsible finds on a budget and all proceeds support the Museum and its many educational programs.
A Dixieland band will provide entertainment, free tours of the Museum will be offered throughout the day, and food and beverages will be available – all adding to the family-friendly atmosphere of the Show. The event is truly a community celebration in a unique New England venue. Tickets for Saturday admission from 9am to 4pm are available for $7.00 (children under 12 are free), and can be purchased on-site the day of the event.
Those who wish to become Friends of the Tavern can purchase tickets to the Friday evening Preview Party to be held from 6 -9 pm on September 25th at the
Tavern which includes cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, priority access to the offerings in The Barn, admission to Saturday’s Show, Saturday luncheon under the Tent as well as a year’s membership to the Museum, all for $100 ($75 is tax deductible). The Antiques Show and Sale is the Museum’s only fundraiser allowing it to provide educational programs to school groups, lectures and symposiums to the community at large, and to maintain its historically significant buildings, grounds and exhibitions. The Museum is entirely self-sustaining.
Built in 1768, the Golden Ball Tavern was the home of Isaac Jones, a prominent Westonian and renowned Tory who later converted to the Patriot cause. The Tavern “at the sign of the Golden Ball” operated as an inn from 1770 to 1793. In the winter of 1775, the Tavern served as a base for British spies and played a prominent role in the formation of the British military plan to march on Lexington and Concord in April marking the start of the Revolutionary War. The house was occupied and carefully preserved for 200 years by 6 generations of the Jones family before being acquired by the Golden Ball Tavern Trust in 1964. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and containing hundreds of historical artifacts, the Golden Ball Tavern Museum is a living museum with stories to tell of American life over hundreds of years.
