Transforming Futures Through Education: One Family At A Time
An Evening of Celebration and Inspiration
Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 6:00-8:00 pm
Sheraton Boston Hotel
May 8th will be An Evening of Celebration and Inspiration honoring the work of One Family, Inc. and their mission to end family homelessness in Massachusetts. The evening is being co-chaired by Penelope and Dan Fireman and will celebrate 31 single parents, all of whom are low-income, homeless or at-risk, and who — through the One Family Scholars program — earned college degrees.
This year three Scholars will be given special recognition: Biana (pictured above with her children) and Sandra, who are close to graduating from college, and Cathy, who received her Associate’s degree this year and is now enrolled in UMass Lowell to earn her Bachelor’s and plans a career in Law.
Many of these single parents have faced significant challenges: homelessness, domestic violence, children with special needs, and illnesses such as cancer. All are devoted to building a better life for themselves and their children.
The evening will feature a cocktail reception, hors d’oeuvres, and a presentation honoring the 2014 class of One Family Scholars.

ONE FAMILY, INC.: Founded in 1999 by Paul and Phyllis Fireman and family, One Family, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to ending family homelessness in Massachusetts. This mission grows out of a core belief that no parent and child should be without a place to call home in such a richly resourced state. One Family works for change by collaborating with elected officials, faith and community leaders, businesses and foundations, and higher learning institutions to develop and implement innovative programs that reverse the widespread, chronic effects of poverty and strengthen lower-income and homeless families. www.onefamilyinc.org
