Inaugural Wellesley 1 Mile Road Race on Mother’s Day to benefit two very worthy charities.

This Mother’s Day, families in Wellesley and beyond have a new event to add to their family tradition: the Inaugural Wellesley 1 Miler benefitting the Hannah Randolph Memorial Fund and Children’s Hospital Boston.

The Race

The Wellesley 1 Miler race will take place May 13, 2012, starting at Whole Foods Market in Wellesley at 9 a.m. Presented by Solid Body Fitness, City Sports, and Whole Foods Wellesley, this 1 mile race is an event that everyone can enjoy. Children can run with friends, while their parents can run to get a little exercise and have fun with the kids. Faster runners can come and compete against some of New England’s best runners on a USA Track & Field certified one mile course, all for a good cause.

All finishers will receive a finisher’s medal and division winners will receive custom-made awards. Registration is $5 for high school and middle school students and $25 for adults.

The Cause

In addition to being a professionally managed and organized race, the Wellesley 1 Miler is a fundraiser for two very worthy causes, Children’s Hospital and the Hannah Randolph Memorial Fund. Children’s Hospital Boston often provides care to children who can’t find help anywhere else. They rely on financial support to offer this care. The race will make a donation to Children’s Hospital in Hannah Randolph’s memory.

The race will also support the Hannah Randolph Memorial Fund. Hannah Randolph was a Wellesley High School student and athlete who died earlier this year. The Hannah Randolph Memorial Fund was established as a permanent legacy to Hannah and supports students and causes that share Hannah’s love of athletics, music, and the pursuit of knowledge and friendship. With the support of the Randolph family, proceeds from the Wellesley 1 Miler will also support the fund.

Even More Reason to Run

After the race, there will be a fun family-oriented festival. Mix 104.1 will be on scene to provide music and entertainment during the post-race festival where Whole Foods Market Wellesley vendors will be providing snacks and beverages.
